We express our identities in
everything we do, we just don´t realise that because we do it unconsciously. So I asked myself "When and How I express my identities?". I conclude that express them when I
speak, because when do it I express my cultural identities
(national/regional/personal…); when I give my opinion in some matter, because I´m expressing my values and ideals ( a big part of my identity); in the way that
I relate/ communicate with others and how I accept their opinions and
differences; in my personal tastes (musical, literary ...); and even in the
smallest things, like the way I dress. These were just some examples, probably
the most obvious ones, in which I´m aware that I´m expressing my identities, but
I´m sure that I do it in many more ways I just don´t realise that I´m doing it .
The Cultural Observer is a blog established for the purpose of providing an on-line platform where students of Intercultural Communication at School of Education and Communication, University of Algarve, Portugal, have the opportunity to express their observations and reflections about differences between various cultures and subcultures. The subject is being attended by both Portuguese and Erasmus students which makes the discussion even more interesting and literally intercultural.

ReplyDeleteYes, we don´t depend only in one single identity, but in a bunch of them. Like the exercise that we have done in class we got into conclusion that are gender, age, sexual, class, racial and religious identity. Some of them we earned it. But others we need to develop through our entire life. I agree with you. We use it every time of the day
